If you live in Ohio and legally carry a concealed pistol or revolver, you NEED to go to Ohioans for Concealed Carry for a TON of info regarding the use of your weapon for self-defense. You can also purchase legal insurance in case you do ever HAVE to fire in self-defense. I assure you, that if that ever happens, you will go to criminal court, and you will probably go to civil court as well. I am NOT getting paid for click-thru’s or anything like that, I just HIGHLY recommend you check this site out!

THIS IS THE ANNUAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH FOR PISTOL.
LARGEST PURSE OF ANY PISTOL CHAMPIONSHIP!
Note from the WebMaster: I explored the site completely, and this is a very, very cool match! It is my intent to enter in 2016 at age 45. By age 50, it is my DREAM to WIN IT! Why not? I’m willing to put the training time in to do it. I’m just plain willing to do what it takes to do it. So really, why not? Because someone else has won it for years running? Because they pull their pants on differently than I? Naw, anything is possible when a man sets his mind to it. Ever seen that silly movie “Wayne’s World?” You remember the scene when they are looking at that super expensive guitar, and Wayne says, “It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine?” Well, that’s how I’m looking at the MidwayUSA & NRA Bianchi cup right now. I simply fail to see a boundary that says I can’t do it!! LOL, I might be taking on more than I realize, but hell, I made it through a war, I think I can handle a pistol competition! Time will tell ya all….
MY PERSONAL CHOICE OF GREAT GUN LINKS
Want a gun? –> (handgun, rifle, shotgun, as well as some muzzleloaders, bow & crossbow.)
MY local store of choice is:
The Staff here is extremely professional, courteous, and helpful. They also conduct CCW classes (at another location), and have an armorer/gunsmith available on Saturdays from 1pm-close.
Also note that if they don’t have what you want, they are able to help you get whatever it is you would like. For in-stock guns, they also have a 3 month lay-a-way plan. Call them for details.
For those of you who can’t see the card very well:
Phone: (937) 317-0787
Monday thru Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Sim-Trainer also sells guns. They have a very nice indoor firing range, and reasonable membership fees. They give a military discount, but I am not totally sure what other discounts are available.. Just click the card above and have a look. GREAT PLACE a bit further north, closer to Dayton proper.
Here are some other links to explore:
Please note: (web orders for any firearm must be shipped to a FFL dealer — that means the gun store of your choice. Usually a nominal fee for this…)
Today (01/23/2014), I visited:
They have a good selection of many things, including firearms. Their actual in-store selection appeared to be what I would call “medium” as far as inventory goes, but it was almost all very high quality stuff. I saw reloading supplies, black powder items, plenty of holsters, etc. The staff was friendly, courteous, and professional.
FOR MILITARY, ACTIVE OR RETIRED (with Valid Military ID): You can purchase from a pretty good selection of firearms on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn. The gun shop is located in the rear of the “Four Seasons.” I just recently discovered they sold guns on base, and was very delighted to see it. Don’t forget that if you buy on base, there are no taxes, and that is a substantial savings on a good firearm. Be advised, if you have not been on Wright-Patt for a while, the section of Route 444 that used to separate the different sides of the Base, has now been fenced in BY the base, and you MUST go through gate 12A, or the gate at the end of 844 off of I-675, in order to get to this store. The traffic around shift changes (ie., between 1600-1800) is horrendously crowded and slow, and I therefore suggest you go in the morning!!
A Fine Selection of Awesome Tactical Gear at: Tactical Gear.com
Gun Parts & Accessories:
This is the most comprehensive gun parts and accessories online store that I know and trust!
In my opinion, Brownell’s is second only to Midway USA as far as their selection and availability of gun parts and accessories.
This shop is nowhere near Dayton, but I assure you it is certainly worth the trip!!
The Sportsman’s Guide
has all sorts of discount optics, ammunition, camping, survival, footwear, etc.
WHERE TO SHOOT:
Sim-Trainer (Dryden Road, Moraine, OH)
Spring Valley is a very nice public range. It has bench/tables at each post, and a good number of posts at 25, 50, 100 & 200 yards. You can purchase a day pass or yearly pass at Wal-Mart or KMart, or anywhere else you might buy a hunting or fishing license, as this range is operated by the Ohio DNR. Spring Valley Range is located off of SR-42, on Roxanne-Burlington Road (actually it is off of THAT road. You take Roxanna-Burlington for about 1.5 miles, then turn left up a hill before a curve to get to the range) Look up details on the ODNR site linked above as “Public Ranges”.
Of course you can use a search engine to find places to shoot, but in my experience, the link above (An Interactive “Where to Shoot” site) is the best way to find ranges.
I previously posted here that The Miami Armory was putting an indoor range in the Franklin/Springboro Area. I got that information from what was apparently an article that was at least a year old, and the plans for the range no longer exist.
